Seventeen versus Teen Vogue

    Hello, hello!

Awhile back, I started a subscription to Teen Vogue. I wasn’t an avid reader of the magazine, but in one issue, I saw a mail-in “Subscribe!” card with an adorable bag on it and decided, why not? If you’ll recall, I never got that free bag.
Since then, I’ve compared two incredibly popular teen-girl magazines, and the details are seriously important to realize. Read on for the epic battle: Seventeen versus Teen Vogue. (Note: I took Girl’s Life out of the running, simply because I believe it’s aimed at a somewhat younger audience: up to age 14 or 15.)

Teen Vogue Reader Benefits: Heads-up for the latest Teen Vogue Haute Spot

In-the-Mail Extra Important note: Seventeen always delivers the magazine to subscribers before it hits stands. Teen Vogue, however, does not. I usually find Teen Vogue on stands before it’s in my mailbox.

Where does this leave you, the consumer? Here’s a summary for each magazine, to help you decide which is best for you.

Being in the game since 1944, Seventeen has teenage minds down pat. Delivering what every young American girl wants to know monthly, Seventeen is ideal for information on style, love, fashion, academics and more. It’s the ultimate monthly bible for every young girl.

First premiering with Gwen Stefani on the cover, Teen Vogue knew what young fashionistas wanted right away. With Vogue as it’s predecessor, Teen Vogue took clothes off the runway, made them wearable, and put them in young girls’ closets everywhere. Delivering a monthly fashion report, Teen Vogue is the ultimate guide for budding designers (and models!) all over the country.

  Subscribe away, young readers!

9 Things You Can Do Right This Second

     Hey hey.

Bored? I know. Check out this list of things you can do, right this second. (Hungry? Check out 6 Easy Snacks to Make Right This Second.)

  •   Start a Tumblr account. I can literally spend hours just sitting here, reblogging all my favorite nonsense.
  •    List your Old, Crappy Video Games on Half.com. I posted my old Super Mario Brothers for DS (I hear there’s plans for a 3DS version. Yeah, I’m that kind of girl now) a few hours ago, and it already sold. $20 in my pocket!
  •     Start a Beauty Insiders Membership. Free birthday gift, and you don’t even have to spend anything. Case closed.
  •    Make a Paper Crane Ceiling.
  •    Find New Music. Totally digging iTunes Genius.
  •    Save for retirement. Have I told you yet? Save 4 grand per year between the ages of 16 and 20, and you’ll have 2 million when your 65. True story. Google it.
  •    Test All the Pens on your Desk. I threw out over half. Pretty bummed.
  •    Bake Something. Well, try to. Most things you need to make a chocolate cake, you already have.
  •   Find out who you share your birthday with. Google “People Born on –insert birthdate–“, then the first source will probably be NNDB.com, which is the most reliable, hands down.

       Sound like a plan?

6 Snacks You Can Make Right This Second

  Hey hey.

I’m some lazy kid who hates standing up for more than 7 seconds. And now I’m hungry. Here’s what happens.

  I make a

  •  Cheese Quesadilla. Grab a tortilla and pour on some shredded cheese. Nuke it for 15 seconds, and you’ve got a fantastic, braces-friendly snack.
  •  Easy Nachos. Not to be confused with the quesadilla, put shredded cheese all over tortilla chips. Shove it in the microwave for a less-modest 45 seconds.
  • Nutella Toast. Bread + Toaster + Nutella = Win.
  • Peanut Butter & Banana Waffle Sandwich. I guess you could make an old-fashioned sandwich, but that’s usually for stiffs. But whatever. It’s your choice.
  •  Oatmeal. I swear, I’m not “just putting this”. I eat Apples & Cinnamon oatmeal like every freaking day… I know, I’m pretty wild.
  •  Chips & Bean Dip. Braces? Ditto; load the chip up with dip, and it’s easy to eat.
  •  Hot Pudding. Add sprinkles, and oh my God, you’ll just freaking die, I swear.

And if you want something to end it, drink up a classic Root Beer Float.

     Enjoy!

    xoxo,

Vacation Tips & Packing

    Hello, travellers.

As you know, I just went to Orlando(you didn’t see the massive post directly under this one? Scroll down, please). Doing so, I picked up three really useful tips on finding deals.

  •    Find Gas Deals: Did you hear how, in many states, Wal-Mart is taking
off 10 cents per gallon of gas just by using a gas card? I didn’t pay for gas
here, but I know this is a pretty big freaking deal.
  •    Get a Groupon Account for the City You’re Visiting: How else
would you discover deals on T-Shirt makers, comedy clubs, and manatee
snorkeling? Or just discover these places in general?
  •   Check Yelp Prior to Buying these Deals: Make sure they’re both
       legit and don’t suck.

I only have one classic packing tip: Leave room for souvenirs, man! I guess I should also suggest collecting pressed pennies like I do, it saves me money–I don’t buy a Bart statue to commemorate my ride on The Simpsons coaster, I just get a pressed penny(or several)! You can also buy pressed penny books. I suggest getting that book at a place you’ve never been and might never return, not a place like Orlando. A place like The Smithsonian(though I hope I will return, someday).

Last tip: If you’re like me, you should LOAD THAT iPOD UP with albums from bands you’ve been dying to listen to, but never got around. Bands like this for me included Arcade Fire and The Black Keys, plus fifty million more. Anyway, listen to them on your road trip. It passes the time, crazy-easy.

I’ll be posting again soon for a vacation/non-vacation haul, plus a list of more bands I’m obsessing over. Oh, and a marigolds picture of course. Maybe even a review or two. Lots in store, baby!

  xoxo,

How To: Make Rice Crispy Treats

Hey hey.

So I haven’t done a how-to in a while, right? I figured this time it should be a recipe. It’s simple, fast, and classic.

Rice Crispy treats are made with a bunch of extra gunk, right? So why not make your own? This is a really simple post on how to do so.

How to Make Rice Crispy Treats —in 3 Steps

   You’ll need…
                        —  4 cups of miniature marshmallows  … or 40 regularly sized
                        — 6 cups of crispy rice cereal    …     I used generic, it tastes the same
                        — 3 tbsp of butter or margarine
                        — Chocolate syrup                      …               optional

                                                     Directions
                                                    (for a stove)

1) In a large saucepan,  melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.

   2) Add your crispy rice cereal to the saucepan. Stir until the cereal is evenly mixed.

   3) A 9×9 pan is suggested, but if something goes awry and you don’t have enough, use a smaller pan. Spread the mixture into the pan, and let it cool.

    Optional 4) Squirt chocolate syrup.

I tried to do the syrup argyle-style. It didn’t work.

       Enjoy!

     xoxo,
         Zoe
